Brazilian makeup during decades - by Gabriele

Back in time... What were the makeup trends in Brazil?

Hi guys, my name's Gabriele! I'm 15 years old and I absolutely LOVE makeup. I guess that's one of my passions. One of my passions too is History, because i'm really into knowing the secrets past holds. πŸ€“
Today I'm here to exactly do this: mixing makeup and history and writing a blog (with my kinda lack of knowledge, but anyway) about the makeup brazilian women used to wear across decades.
Seems I'm talking too much abot myself, so let's start with what matters! 🌸

1910's

In 1910s, bobbed hairstyles to replace elaborate Edwardian updos thanks to French singer Polaire and famous ballroom dancer Irene Castle, who introduced her bob to America in 1915.

1920's

In this decade, makeup brought drama and a certain touch of melancholy to the look, mainly due to the thin, downward-arched eyebrows, which were combined with darker shadows, as well as lipstick.

                                                                         1930's

From 1920 to 1930 there were no drastic changes in makeup, but small changes softened the melancholy appearance, such as upward arched eyebrows and brighter colors in eyeshadow and lipstick.

    1940's

Here, the eyebrows remain arched, but thicker. Dark shadows gave way to lighter tones and mascaras, and the most intense red lipstick gained prominence. Carmen Miranda was one of the Brazilian icons who contributed greatly to the beauty of the time.

                                                                         1950's

It was at this time that the eyeliner, as we know it today, emerged. Combined with the red lipstick, they created a classic and timeless look.

                                                                         1960's

Red lipstick loses strength, lips become paler, while eyes are even more emphasized. Little by little the colored shadows are incorporated, with the crease well marked and graphic outlines. Rita Lee was one of the women who inspired makeup in the 60s.

                                                                         1970's

Smoky and colorful eyeshadows come into play combined with more neutral lipsticks. Here, we see the beginnings of glowing skin with subtly flushed cheeks.

                                                                         1980's

The 80s were a true explosion of colors and creativity in makeup. The motto was “more is more”, thicker eyebrows, colorful eyeshadows and combinations with more than one tone, vibrant lipsticks and well-marked blush.

                                                                         1990's

At that time, the gothic aesthetic was successful, and there was always some element incorporated into the makeup, such as paler skin and dark brown tones in the eyes and lips. The look also involved to an even higher ponytail paired with thick bangs and more natural looking make-up.

                                                                         2000's

The heyday of thin eyebrows returned in the 2000s. Here, shimmering eyeshadows couldn't be missing from the makeup bag, as well as a good lip gloss and lip liner.

                                                                         2010's

Shimmering shadows continued to be popular but, this time, they added a touch of shine to smoky eyes, which was a real craze. The eyebrows thickened again and were well defined, the blush was well marked and the lighter lipsticks, such as pink and lilac, were the hit of the decade.
